Credentialing is often the longest pole in the tent when opening a practice or adding a provider. Planning for it 120 days ahead protects your revenue.

Typical timelines

Medicare enrollment through PECOS usually takes 30 to 60 days. Medicaid varies widely by state. Commercial payers commonly take 60 to 120 days, sometimes longer for closed panels.

How to avoid delays

Keep CAQH current and attested every 120 days, submit complete applications, and follow up weekly. Missing documents are the number one cause of credentialing delays.
